Having enjoyed a 7-1 thrashing of Old Centralians Reserves last weekend at Barr Field, Kris Macdonald takes his team over to Batley to face Howden Clough this Saturday.
Weather permitting, this match should kick-off at 2pm and even though a quick look at the weather forecast shows that it should be sunny intervals and a temperature of 3 degrees C, please keep watching our social media feeds for game updates, as temperatures are continuing to fluctuate between -6 and 4 degrees over the next few days!
With Deighton scoring 13 times in the last 3 games, Macdonald’s men have strung together a three-match unbeaten run and will be looking to extend this free scoring form against a side rooted in mid-table.
Sitting in 8th position, our hosts find themselves four points adrift of the team above them, so a win would give them chance of closing the gap on Altofts Reserves. However, they will be keeping a close eye on Kippax Reserves who reside just three points behind them!
Like us, Howden have struggled a bit for form over the last five games, although whilst we appear to have turned the corner, our hosts have lost their last two games, both by a 4-1 scoreline to Altofts and Salts Reserves respectively.
On their Batley Sports & Tennis Centre ground, they have struggled to find wins, having only recorded two out of nine attempts. One interesting thing to note is that they haven’t drawn a game at home yet, making them one of five teams not to have a mark in this column!
Goals wise, Howden have suffered, only scoring 14 times (making them the 4th lowest scoring team). They have also struggled in defence as well with 37 goals put past them (making them the 2nd highest team in this category). Hopefully with our own Chris Plews, Vito D’Avanzo and Phil Turner all vying to be the first player in the Reserves to hit 10 league goals this season, one may achieve this come the final whistle!
Despite the season now entering its final stages, this will be the first time that the two teams have met this campaign, with the return fixture pencilled in for the 23rd February. Last season, Rangers took the honours in both games with a 4-1 win being recorded in this match, courtesy of goals from D’Avanzo (2), Park and Williams.
The teams appear to have no worries on the suspension front, but with injuries and absences taking hold, it may well necessitate a change in personnel from both managers.
Taking charge of this game is Mr Tahir Khan. Over his four matches as referee this season, he has, according to the FA website, issued just the one card, but it was a red one in the Division One match between Howden Clough and East End Park!
If you would like to watch this game, then the address you will need is Batley Sports & Tennis Centre, Windmill Lane, Howden Clough, Batley WF17 0QD. Please note not to park in front of the Sports Centre itself, but instead parking is situated via the service road between the High School and the Sports Centre. Follow this all the way past the Tennis Centre to parking area.
