“Bounce-back-ability” is the name of the game for Kris Macdonald as he takes his side over to Finkle Hill to play Sherburn White Rose Reserves, in what could be a very important game for us. Following our recent 5-1 defeat against Altofts Reserves, the management will be demanding an instant response from the team, especially as we will be looking to get our promotion bid back on track!
Kick-off for this match is 2pm, and a look at the weather forecast shows that the game should be played in sunny intervals, although the temperature will be a chilly 5 degrees C!
There is no secret that Macdonald will be wanting the team to rediscover the form that saw them notch a ten-match unbeaten league run before last Saturday, but they will be coming up against a team who also have a need for the points, albeit from a different perspective.
Our hosts are currently in the bottom trio of the table, residing in 12th spot. They have only managed to take 11 points from a total of 45, but that won’t stop them from putting up a monster of a fight against us. At home, they have managed to claim six of those points with wins against Old Centralians and more recently Rothwell. Sherburn have scored an impressive 21 times on home soil (avg. 2.3 goals per game), but also have a heavy concede rate with 28 (avg. 3.1 goals per game) being counted against them at present.
A win for us would potentially see a climb of two places into third place, whilst a defeat would see us stay in fifth place. A win for Sherburn could see them rise one place into 11th, whilst another mark in the loss column would see them stay in their current position. Looking at the FA stats, the duo of Ryan Franks and Kyle Macdonald will need to be marshalled closely as they have scored 10 and 7 goals respectively so far.
One player who won’t be able to take part in this match is Sherburn’s Daniel Middleton who is currently serving a three-match suspension. Whilst suspensions aren’t a concern for our man in charge, he will be running his eye over a couple of players who have picked up knocks recently.
Taking the whistle for this match will be Mr Jon Pearson. So far, Mr Pearson has been the referee for 11 games and has issued eight yellow cards and no reds.
