This weekend sees another chance for us to extend our unbeaten start to 2019 when we welcome Leeds Modernians to Barr Field for a League One game. The match has a 2pm kick-off, but the weather isn’t looking too clever with thick cloud and low temperatures expected.
With the weather set to take a turn for the worse in the next few days, please keep an eye on our Social Media channels for updates to the status of this, and other games involving Kirk Deighton Rangers.
With a seven-point gap between us and fourth placed Newsome, and Hartshead one place behind us having played three games less, it’s imperative that we keep picking up points to keep pace with the top four and to also put the pressure on the teams below us. We have managed a great start to the year with wins over Wetherby Athletic and Hartshead, but we can’t let the momentum slip against a team that are fighting for the points to pull them clear of the relegation zone.
At the moment, Leeds Modernians sit in 12th place, just a single point above the bottom three. On their travels they have won twice, drawn once and lost five. They have really struggled to find goals with just seven (which is the lowest of all teams) hitting the back of their opponent’s net (avg. 0.9 goals scored per away match), whilst they have conceded 19 (avg. 2.4 goals conceded per away game). Looking at the FA stats, it shows that Danny Forrest is their main goal getter with 7 goals (all in the league).
Both teams are suspension free and with players returning from injury, it may well be that Manager Dan Marshall has strong pool of players to choose from, including new player Will Bates, who celebrated his debut against Hartshead by scoring a brace from off the bench!
With have already met once this season and it turned out to be a goal feast with Danny Grannon scoring right at the death to make it 4-3 to us (other goals came from Jon Richards, Dan Slater and Roman Neal). A win for us would hopefully (other results going our way) allow us to cut Newsome’s lead down to four points. A defeat will see us remain in 5th place as Hartshead are involved in cup action.
The referee for this game will be Mr Brandon Blackham. During this season, he has been the main man seven times with another ten appearances as Assistant Referee. According to the stats, he has issued nine yellow cards and no red ones. We have had the pleasure of seeing Mr Blackham before when he was in charge of our 2-0 win over Pool AFC. We hope that he has a pleasant time again whilst he is at Barr Field.
We would also like to wish our visiting team, their fans and officials a pleasant journey to and from our ground. The gates will be open from around 12:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a drink in our clubhouse. We will be serving our matchday special for just £2.00 per bottle, and there will also be a great range of both alcoholic and soft drinks for you to buy before, at half-time and after the game.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
