It’s been a perfect start to 2019 for the first team, as they have notched up four wins from four games and will be looking to make it a fabulous five against Kippax this Saturday, weather permitting!
Should we get the go ahead from Mother Nature, the game at Barr Field is scheduled for a 2pm kick-off, but please keep checking our social media feeds as the temperature is set to fluctuate between -6 to 4 degrees between now and Saturday.
Whilst Dan Marshall will be delighted with the return of points since the start of the New Year, he knows that there can be no letting up in our performances. Our opponents are without doubt one of the hardest teams to face that this league offers, although they have had a season of erratic form, and as a result sit in 9th place with more defeats than victories.
The stats prove that Kippax don’t travel well having won just three of the ten games that they have played. They have also added another point to their total with a 3-3 draw against Oxenhope Recreation. Goal scoring wise, they also sit mid table with 19 converted, but have conceded the fifth highest with 26 put in against them.
This will be the second time that we have met this season, and it needed a late penalty from Charlie Yates to salvage a point with a 1-1 draw following a tough game (see match report here).
Whilst gaining all three points will not move us up the league, it will hopefully allow us to close the annoying four-point gap that Newsome are managing to maintain over us! If we lose, then Hartshead have a chance to reduce our eight-point lead over them to five!
The referee for this match will be Mr Ian Brown. Over the past four games that he has been the man in charge, he has, according to the FA website issued seven yellow cards and two reds. Hopefully, he will have no need to show any this weekend! We hope that Mr Brown has a pleasant time whilst he is with us.
We would also like to wish our visiting team, their fans and officials a pleasant journey to and from our ground. The gates will be open from around 12:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a drink in our clubhouse. We will be serving our matchday special for just £2.00 per bottle, and there will also be a great range of both alcoholic and soft drinks for you to buy before, at half-time and after the game.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
