Following an entertaining, but ultimately frustrating 3-3 draw against Wetherby Athletic last weekend, we now turn our attentions to Featherstone Colliery who visit Barr Field this Saturday.
The game starts at 2:30pm but with the weather threatening to turn nasty during the early hours of the morning, please wrap up warm as its set to be heavy rain and gusty winds throughout.
With Rangers looking to make it three unbeaten, we will have to overcome a stubborn side that is more than capable of putting up a fight to make sure that they get the points as well. We learnt this earlier on this campaign when, despite running out 4-1 winners (Roman Neal with a hat-trick and Josh Barden – see match report here), Featherstone made us work hard all match and were unlucky with serval of their own chances that rattled the woodwork.
Featherstone have found themselves in the bottom reaches of the league all season, but with some superb results including a 4-2 win over Newsome and more recently a 2-1 victory over leaders Hall Green United, they have pulled themselves into 12th place and signs all point to them climbing higher before the end of the season.
Away from their home, Colliery’s form isn’t great having won just one of the eleven games that they have played. They have however, added another point through a 2-2 draw with Hall Green United early on in the season. Goals wise, they have scored 16 times, whilst conceding 34.
Roman Neal scores the first of his hat-trick against Featherstone Colliery during our 4-1 win in November 2018.
Looking at the FA website, both teams appear to be suspension free and with several players that were unavailable for the Wetherby game returning back, Manager Dan Marshall should have a decent squad to choose from. Charlie Yates is searching for his fifteenth goal of the season, whilst the chasing trio of Danny Grannon (11), Josh Barden (9) and Will Bates (8) will be hoping they can catch up on our leading scorer.
Taking charge of this game is Mr. Art McCann. So far this season, he has refereed nine matches and assisted in another nine. Disciplinary wise, he has issued 11 yellow cards and 1 red. We would like to wish Mr. McCann a pleasant time whilst he is with us at Barr Field.
As ever, we would also like to extend a warm welcome to our visiting team, officials and supporters. The gates to the ground will be open from approximately 12:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a drink in our clubhouse. We will be serving our matchday special for just £2.50 per bottle, as well as a wide choice of both alcoholic and soft drinks for you to buy before, at half-time and after the game.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
We are very pleased to announce that our Chairman Dan Jones will be sponsoring this match, we would like to thank Mr Jones for his generosity.
