Match Preview: East End Park

Following last weekend’s disappointing 3-3 draw against Newsome FC, Manager Dan Marshall will be hoping to return to winning ways against East End Park this coming Saturday at Barr Field. The match has a 2pm kick-off time and the accompanying weather may well be constant rain!
It’s never an easy match when you play East End Park and, as we know all too well from the 2-2 draw (Jake Young scoring a brace for us) that both teams played out at Skelton Road in August, it will be a tough match against a physical side who will be wanting all the points as they look to return into the top half of the table.
A win for us, combined with Newsome losing their match against Leeds Modernians would see us leapfrog Newsome and into fourth place. As Hartshead, who lie in 6th place, are busy with cup action, should we lose to East End Park, we will remain in fifth place.
Our visitors currently lie in 9th place with 17 points from a total of 42 at present. Breaking this down further, they have gained eight points at home and nine points on the road. These nine points have been achieved with three wins balanced out by three defeats. On their travels they have scored 15 goals (avg. 2.5 goals per game), but they have conceded the third highest out of all the teams with 25 goals (avg. 4.2 goals per game). A look at the stats from the FA website indicates that we will have to watch Liam Clark closely as he is East End’s leading scorer with 10 goals (8 in the league).
Both teams have no suspension worries coming into this game and with nearly a full contingent of players at his disposal, Marshall should be able to name a very strong squad for this contest.
The referee for this game will be Mr Nigel Bannister. Although Mr Bannister has been involved in thirteen other matches (as an Assistant Referee) this season, he has only been the man in the middle just once when he officiated Boroughbridge’s 6-1 win over Otley Town last month. We hope that he has a pleasant time (as do the officials and fans of East End Park) whilst he is with us.
The gates to the ground will be open from around 12:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a drink in our clubhouse. We will be serving our matchday special for just £2.00 per bottle, and there will also be a great range of both alcoholic and soft drinks for you to buy before, at half-time and after the game.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
We are still on the lookout for a match sponsor for this game, so if you, or your business would like to get involved and get your logo/brand known to our supporters, please let our Media Officer Pete Arnett know by clicking here. For just £25.00, it is a great way to get involved!
