Football returns to Barr Field this Saturday, and it’s going to be a great match to end the year on as our Reserves welcome Altofts Reserves. Kick-off is at 2pm and it is forecast to be light club and a moderate breeze.
With our visitors struggling in the lower half of the table, Player/Manager Kris Macdonald will be hoping that his side can continue the form that has seen them rack up a ten-game unbeaten league streak, however he will also be aware that wins against Pool Res and Howden Clough Res, just to name a few, mean that Altofts will be a difficult side to beat.
With games in hand over the top four teams, Rangers will be looking to regain their place in the top trio of the division, but only a win will do if this is to happen. A draw will see us remain in 5th place, level on points with Ilkley Town Res whilst a defeat will see us also remain in 5th but waste a precious game in hand!
At present, Altofts are in 9th place with 17 points from a possible total of 45. Looking at this closer, they have managed to gain six of these points on their travels (two wins and four defeats). Goals wise, they aren’t too shabby, outscoring a handful of teams in the upper reaches with a total of 16 goals (avg. 2.7 goals per away game) so far, however, they have problems in defence, having conceded one of the highest in 19 goals (avg. 3.2 goals per away game). One area that we will have to be alert to is the goal threat that Nathan Jarvis provides our visitors. So far, he has scored a total of 11 goals, with 10 coming in the league alone. This puts him as only one of eight players who have reached double figures this season.
A look back over the past few meetings between the two sides show that the spoils mainly belong to us, with this fixture last time ending in a 5-0 win, thanks to a brace from Vito D’Avanzo and Joe Turley with a solitary strike from Phil Turner.
Taking control of this match will be Mr Rob Cornforth. Mr Conforth has already taken control of seven matches this season, with another nine as Assistant Referee. In the seven matches, he has issued ten yellow cards and a single red one. As ever, we wish our visiting official a pleasant time whilst he is at Barr Field.
We would also like to wish our visiting team, their fans and officials a pleasant journey to and from our ground. The gates will be open from around 12:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a drink in our clubhouse. We will be serving our matchday special for just £2.00 per bottle, and there will also be a great range of both alcoholic and soft drinks for you to buy before, at half-time and after the game.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
