Harrogate Railway Athletic Res v Kirk Deighton Rangers Res Match Preview

Thursday evening football (or water polo if this weather doesn’t stop) continues when Kris Macdonald takes his squad over to Station View to play Harrogate Railway Athletic Reserves.

The match has a 7pm kick-off time and a quick glance at the weather forecast shows a mixed bag, with cloudy skies mingled with rain showers!

The Opposition.

This is sure to be a top-quality match against a side that has joined the West Yorkshire League (Division 2) just in time for this season.

Having beating this side in Hulme Cup Final last season, we know about the quality that they possess. That match saw Railway strong and comfortable on the ball, and with a new manager at the helm of the main team, bringing in a new ethos and players, we expect to see that trend continue and intensify.

Railway’s last campaign ended with them finishing third in the Harrogate & District Division 1. They had one of the best attacks with 67 goals scored and one of the meanest defences with just 26 conceded.

A look at their website shows that Railway’s Reserves have played at least two pre-season games with a 2-1 win over Wetherby Athletic and a 3-2 defeat against Dringhouses.

Head To Head.

Apart from the cup meeting that went in our favour last season, there is only one other game that appears in our database (although this isn’t complete at the moment) that shows on the 19th Jan 1980, our first team suffered a 5-0 defeat in a Harrogate & District League 1 match.

Team News For Rangers.

As with most of the matches, this game will give the management time to look at players and positions with an eye on the opening league match in a couple of weeks. It is expected that some of the youngsters we have seen in recent weeks will be given another chance to impress.

What About Harrogate Railway Athletic?

Railway have quite a big squad, so they should have plenty of options all over the park. It is hard to tell what team that they will start with, but it will be a very competitive one.

Following The Game.

Unfortunately, due to work commitments, there will not be our regular social media presence at this match.

Should you wish to watch the game, the address that you will need is Station View, Starbeck, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG2 7JA.
