Following the disappointing capitulation at Station View on Thursday evening, Kris Macdonald will be demanding an instant response from his team as they take on Harlow Hill this Saturday.
IMPORTANT – please note that this match has swapped venues, it will now be played at Oatlands Mount not Barr Field.
The match has a 2pm kick-off time and it is forecast to be a cloudy, but hopefully dry, day, however it may still be advisable to bring an umbrella!
Harlow Hill are probably one of Harrogate’s most well-known teams and a side that we have had quite a rivalry with since 1949!
Harlow play in the Harrogate & District Premier Division and delivered successive league titles with a ten-point gap over Ventus Yeadon Celtic. They also achieved the distinction of not losing a game throughout the league campaign!
They have played at least one pre-season game so far, losing 1-0 to a Boroughbridge Reserves/Development side.
Head To Head.
Although our database isn’t complete, it does throw up the statistics that the two first teams have met at least eleven times. The first meeting occurred on the 10th September 1949 and it wasn’t a happy occasion for us, being soundly beaten 5-1! However, for equilibriums sake, we did get our own back in the return home fixture when we won 6-3 (P.McGrath scoring an impressive five times. The paper fails to mention our other scorer!).
With the results that are known (unfortunately we are missing the scores from 02 Nov 1957 and the 21st Dec 1957 – the paper acknowledges the games, but doesn’t mention the scores!) it would appear that we hold a sight advantage over Harlow, having been victorious six times compared to their four.
The last time that the two sides met ended in a 4-1 win for us (19 Nov 2016) and it was quite an action-packed game. There were three yellow cards and a sending off, and that was just for us! Goals came from Josh Barden (2), Joe Wilks and James Woodward.
Team News For Rangers.
At the moment, the management are keeping pretty tight-lipped about the starting eleven, but it is hoped that several players who were unavailable for the 4-1 defeat at Harrogate Railway Athletic will be in contention for a start. Macdonald will also be looking to the squad who took part in that match to right the wrongs and end the Pre-Season on a winning note!
What About Harlow Hill?
Not much is known about who will start, but it is expected that they will field a very strong squad who put emphasis on playing good attacking football, which has always been their ethos.
